This truly is a fantastic collection of poems elegantly describing amazing places in our country. The illustrations enhance the poetry, painting a visual picture that goes incredibly well with the descriptive language of the poems. As a traveler to many, but not all, of these places I am inspired to visit the places I have not yet gone. The last few pages give more details on the places the poems are written about, which adds a nice touch. This is a collection of poems by various authors about a wide variety of landmarks and other places representing America's diverse culture. Each poem is paired with a full-page color illustration.

I really enjoyed this poetry book about poems from different places all over the world. Campfires is the first poem about a mother and daughter having a campfire and her mother roasting crickets then her mother surprises her with a marshmallow to toast. The illustrations provide good reference to the poem. The Longhouse Song was a favorite of mine; this dad and his sons are working in the longhouse they made in the dad's grandfather's field and the poem finished by the dad starts to sing a song he used to sing while he worked. This song touched my heart and helped me to put my self in that place singing the song along with the book. Langston is a shorter poem that I enjoyed a lot as well. It is about a young guy delivering newspapers and then started seeing others carry his reams of poems around enjoying them. A Sunday Trip to Chinatown is another great poem about a family visiting Chinatown and each one of the children were able to get a treat and it talks about the treat each child was able or wanted to get. Midway Magic was another poem I enjoyed about a state fair that while reading it and looking at the illustrations you can picture or feel your self at your town fair/state fair/carnival. I really enjoyed the poem 1 2 5 as well about a grandma and her grandson going to the Magic Johnson Movie theater; it is a fun poem to read, with the layout and words used. I enjoyed the poem about Fenway Park as well describing a grandpa and his grandson watching a Boston Red Sox game and gives vivid description of their day at the park. There are many other great poems in this book. The end of the book has a description of where and what inspired each poem written in the story.

Illustrations are exquisitely sketched in this book of beautiful poetry. From Native America to Chinatown, a list of authors takes us on a journey through what makes America culturally diverse.
