"Janet Evanovich, author of the blockbuster Stephanie Plum novels, and Lee Goldberg, writer for the Monk television show, team up once again in their rollicking, New York Times bestselling Fox and O'Hare series! Nicolas Fox, international con man, thief, and one of the top ten fugitives on the FBI's most-wanted list, has been kidnapped from a beachfront retreat in Hawaii. What the kidnapper doesn't know is that Nick Fox has been secretly working for the FBI. It isn't long before Nick's covert partner, Special Agent Kate O'Hare, is in hot pursuit of the crook who stole her con man. The trail leads to Belgium, France, and Italy, and pits Nick and Kate against their deadliest adversary yet: Dragan Kovic, an ex-Serbian military officer. He's plotting a crime that will net him billions. and cost thousands of American lives. Nick and Kate have to mount the most daring, risky, and audacious con they've ever attempted to save a major U.S. city from a catastrophe of epic proportions. Luckily they have the help of an eccentric out-of-work actor, a bandit who does his best work in the sewers, and Kate's dad, Jake. The pressure's on for Nick and Kate to make this work--even if they have to lay their lives on the line. Another fun installment in the Fox & O'Hare series. Not a super huge fan of the new agent (Cosmo) and his hyper-fixation for completing forms. i am hoping he will turn into a lovable sidekick like Lula in the Stephanie Plum series. ( )

These books are a perfect summer read. Or a read where you don't have lots of time to read at one sitting. I am amazed at the different ways they blow stuff up and the various ways they always catch the bad guys. ( )

We begin by witnessing the kidnapping of criminal/FBI informant Nicholas Fox by a smash-and-grab gang. The gang plans to use his unique talents for a diamond heist - but little does Fox know, the diamond heist is just the beginning for this gang. Their next crime could jeopardize the lives of thousands. Enter Fox's handler/(maybe?) romantic partner FBI Special Agent Kate O'Hare. Fox and O'Hare can foil the crime and save the day, but only if O'Hare is able to find Fox first!

In many ways, The Pursuit reminds me of a fun action-adventure movie. The plot isn't realistic by any means (many, many laws broken and possibly iffy science), but somehow, the ridiculousness of everything adds to the enjoyment level. It also includes a lot of action, a large cast of characters, and intricate cons and heists worthy of Oceans Eleven. Evanovich and Goldberg are skilled in describing the exotic settings that the characters visit, adding additional vibrancy to the book.

What I didn't love about this book was the ending. Without giving too much away, I felt that the mystery was resolved strangely, as it didn't feel like many of the key plot points were resolved - though maybe they will be addressed in the next book? It also seemed very abrupt, as if there was an extra chapter at the end that wasn't included in my library's eBook copy.

Do note that this book often discusses an infectious disease. Given the COVID-19 pandemic and how much it's touched our lives, I wouldn't necessarily call it an escapist novel. Also, this book works as a standalone. The plot is easy to follow along with, though new readers may miss out on some of the backstories and relationships of the recurring characters.
