Willy is a young kid who is very disobedient. His dad tells him to listen to his grandma, but all Willy thinks is his grandma is silly. His grandma tells his tells him to not do certain things, but he does them anyway. She tells him to not cut his toenails on Sundays, its bad luck, Willy does it anyway. She tells him not to sing a song before breakfast, Willy does it anyway. Finally, Willy's grandma tells him not to go walking in the swamp at night and Willy doesn't listen. When Willy goes walking in the swamp he hears moans and see's monsters in the swamp and he goes running out. He is then comforted by his grandma and learns he should listen to his grandma. Willy develops as a person by knowing he should listen to his elders and he should not be so disobedient. Just like Willy's dad told him through out the story "when it comes to things that matter, your grandma's brighter than a star and sharper than a porcupine quill.Your grandma knows what she knows."(pg.5). This book is about a little boy named Willy and his grandmother claiming to know magic. Willy did not believe in this magic she talked about. Willy's grandma told him everyday about things he shouldn't do before breakfast, outside, etc. Wily figured he could do all of these things because his grandma was "silly" and superstitious, until one night he went into the swamp and the boogeyman came to get him, or so he thought.

I thought this book was very entertaining. It really shows that grandmas, or grandparents, actually know more than kids give them credit for knowing. Always listen to your elders.

Classroom ideas would be to tell stories of what the children's grandparents have told them. (advice and such). Tell each other what they believe in, or what they know to be true. ( )

This book is about old family superstitions that are being passed down but Willy doesn't believe in them. Then he experiences one of them and sees that his grandma wasn't joking. The colors in this book are mostly shades of brown. ( )

This is the story of a boy, whose grandmother is superstitious. She is constantly warning of things that will happen if he does certain things, on certain days of the week. he doesn't believe her and thinks she is silly. Each time his grandma turns her back, he does exactly what she has told him not to do. One night while walking by the swamp, he is frightened by the Boogeyman. he runs home to his grandma screaming for help. He finally realizes that he should listen to her even if what she says seems silly. ( )
