I've read [The House at Baker Street] by [Michelle Birkby]. Mrs. Hudson and Mary Watson decide to help a young woman Sherlock Holmes turned away. Told in Mrs. Hudson's voice, it has the same feel as the original books, is well written, and includes help for the two from the Irregulars. I approached it with some trepidation but it was very good. ( )

Mary Watson and Mrs Hudson team together to investigate a blackmailed that is driving some people to suicide. He seems to revel in destroying lives. When they investigate it becomes more involved and they keep finding more and more victims. The danger ramps up as they get closer to the truth.
Written from Mrs Hudson's perspective this is an interesting twist on the tales. ( )

While browsing my city's public library, I found this book. I read the author's note and was intrigued to read. So I picked the book and enjoyed it.
The truth I haven't read the whole stories of Sherlock Holmes, but you can read The House at Baker Street without reading the original one.
Both Mrs. Hudson and Mary Watson are smart ladies that can do an investigation or two the way Sherlock Holmes does.
It is funny to see Sherlock Holmes as a secondary character. While you are reading, you can feel the Victorian London ambiance. The mystery is quite engaging, the setting is believable, and most importantly, Mrs. Hudson's voice is easy to follow. ( )

I have a soft spot for all things Sherlock Holmes, and have read modern adaptations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous books, for years. I've allowed myself to enjoy the further adventures of some of history's most favourite characters, born from the minds of some of the most creative authors in the business. From the darkest cases to the lighthearted ones, from paranormal cases to the run-of-the-mill investigations; the characters of Sherlock Holmes has seen it all, and they've taken me on all their journeys with them.

So, when I received an ARC of The House at Baker Street by Michelle Birkby, and I read the synopsis, I was already hooked. Never before had I read a book about the women of Baker Street! I mean, we know these women - the lovable Mrs Hudson, and the clever Mary Watson - and we enjoy reading about them, yet I have never seen another work that explores their lives and backgrounds before The House at Baker Street came along.

Needless to say, I truly enjoyed The House at Baker Street. The mystery is fun, the characters are developed well, and I liked how Michelle Birkby made the story her own while keeping in mind Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original tales. Furthermore, I can't wait to watch the TV show (the TV rights have been optioned for the book), or read the next books in the series.

If you're a fan of Sherlock Holmes, I suggest you get your hands on this book. You won't be disappointed.
