Mr. Pip and Frederick Lipton are best friends despite one being a monkey and the other an actor. For Frederick's birthday, all Mr. Pip wants to do is spend time with him and give his best friend a gift, a drawing of Frederick. Although when it is time to give the gift, Mr. Pip feels as if his gift is insufficient, and becomes dejected. Frederick is worried and takes him to every vet in town, and they find nothing wrong. A couple of weeks pass in the care of the Guild of Geniuses, and they, as smart as they are, cannot figure out what is wrong! Just when Frederick was about to lose hope, Mr. Pip throws Mr. Frederic a surprise birthday party. After all that time, all Mr. Pip wanted was to spend time with his best friend. "It doesn't take a genius to figure that out." This story was written by Dan Santat in 2004, and it is clear to see that his art has evolved over time. ( )

Genre: Contemporary Realistic Fiction. This book is CRF because no animals talk even though he has a pet monkey.
Media: Acrylic, Mixed Media on Bristol Paper, a little elbow grease and the right side of the brain.
Uses: I wouldn't really use this book, overall, I did not like it. It was okay and I might have it in my classroom library but it isn't one I would read for a certain subject or anything like that.
