Max is a student at a new school. He has no friends. He's being bullied. BUT...it's better than being homeschooled by his grandmother who used to be a kindergarten teacher. Max has asthma so his parents are on high alert for any problems at his new school. He also has bladder issues and has "to go" all the time. Meanwhile Doug "Thug" Thurston is out to get Max after he accidentally upchucked on his shoes in PE. At the start of a 3-day weekend, Thug locks Max in his locker and leaves. Everyone else has already left too. After 3 hours in his locker, Max discovers a way out, but he can't just head for the door. There are burglars in the school and they've just discovered the rare comic book Max left in the computer lab. His dad is going to kill him if he doesn't get it back.

I'm sure kids will like this book, but it wasn't one of my favorite humorous middle grade reads. It's too much like the Dork Diaries and I'm starting to get bored with books about kids who are bullied and have no friends, but somehow get noticed by the popular girl. I didn't care for the ending either. There is a To Be Continued message at the end. Really? It totally stops right in the middle of the action. It's like a power outage in the middle of a movie. He and the burglars are still in the school and he still doesn't have his comic book. Who ends a book this way? ( )

This book is about a new kid who is an eighth grader named Max Crumbly who had to face the "scariest" place ever: South Ridge Middle school. Ever since he moved to a new school, it seemed nice but there was one huge problem. Doug Thurston ,the school bully keeps stuffing him in his locker. Max was only hoping that he can be a hero in his favorite comics. But at the same time he worries that he'll never make it out of school alive. To be honest, out of the whole school he had one friend/crush on Erin. She might think he's weird but still thinks that Max is a good friend though. Will he make it out of school? In my opinion, I think this is a good book to read. Like sometimes, I can relate to him and about school too, but I think school great though and not the scariest place. Anyway, I would like to become a middle school myself, helping new students where to go, learning that it's okay to make mistakes, and to not be nervous. Also to not get into trouble too. ( )
