"Night Court," by award-winning author Ashley Fontainne, is one of her darkest novels yet. Set in the dark streets of the night amidst today's pervasive drug culture, Ashley pens a tale that is part non-stop suspense and part heart-wrenching family drama. I was absolutely blown away by this book as once again, Ms. Fontainne managed to amaze me at the devious twists and turns this tale took. However, behind all the thrills and surprises, you also get a glimpse into the sorrow and anguish that many face today that are victims of the addictions and demons of our times.

Ashley Fontainne has a unique way of telling a story that manages to astound me every time I read one of her books. I think I know where's she's going with the plot and then, every time, she manages, through her evil genius, to astonish and confound me. Her characters are never black and white, but in that shaded area of grey where you think you're going to like or dislike a certain character, but then manage to totally change your mind by the end of the book. This book did it to me again and I ended it with tears in my eyes.

I hesitate to say that each book I read by Ashley just keeps getting better and better because that would be to insinuate that her first books weren't as good, and that's not the case at all. Each one does keep getting better and better, but she started at a point of excellence to begin with, so if you're not reading her books by now, you have absolutely no idea what you're missing.

I’ve read one other book by Ashley Fontainne and loved it so I was excited to read Night Court. If you are looking for unending suspense and thrills that keep on coming, you need to read this book.

A quick recap for ya. Merry lost her son and her husband. Her son died of a drug overdose and her husband had a heart attack at his funeral. With nothing left to lose, Merry turns to vigilante justice. Taking up weapons to eliminate the drug dealers responsible.

And Merry has a few advantages. With her brother being a cop and working for a judge, she has access to vital inside info about the drug dealers.

The first kill goes off without a hitch. In fact, something she did spur of the moment completely covered her tracks. Or did it?

I felt so bad for Merry. Her family gone and not much to live for. When my son was young I often wondered what I’d do if someone harmed him. I sometimes thought I’d go the route of Merry. Why should scum live and breathe while my son is gone.

That this often happens in real life made this even more intense for me. People commit crimes over and over, yet are released from jail to do harm again.

There’s this one scene with a dog that I loved. You know that saying, “Every dog has his day!” Gotta cheer for Percy.

I thought I knew where the story was going. Then, the author threw a kidney punch that knocked be back on my heels. Never saw it coming. Or the next thing. Or the next. So many shockers I was reeling.

And the ending. Man, it was wicked. I wish I could tell you, it was that great. There was something I wanted so bad not to happen, but once I finished the book, I knew it was the perfect ending.

I’d tag this is a suspense/thriller. A must read that I can’t recommend enough.

Thanks, Ashley, for an early copy to review. ( )

My original Night Court audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

Wow, I didn’t see that coming!

I’ve only just recently started listening to books by Ashley Fontainne; Night Court being my third one, and I must say this was the best one yet. By the end of it, I had tears in my eyes. Not what I had expected at all.

Merry recently lost her husband to a heart attack and shortly before, her only child, Joshua, died from a drug overdose. Now she is out for vigilante justice eliminating the drug dealers responsible for her family’s pain and suffering.

I was totally convinced I knew where this story was going, and then Ashley Fontainne threw in some twists and turns that left me flabbergasted. You thought you knew the characters and what they were about and then, bam, it all changed.

Being terribly soppy when it comes to animals, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to listen to part of the story involving the dog but it was handled brilliantly, and I actually really enjoyed that part of the story.

Night Court was part suspenseful psychological thriller and part emotional family drama and turned out to be much more than I had expected. If you enjoy dark stories with characters that are out of the ordinary, I would highly recommend this. It gripped me right from the start, and I ended up listening to it in one sitting finishing it in a day.

I have listened to several other audiobooks narrated by Rebecca Roberts, and while her narration has always been very good, I thought this was superb. She really expressed the emotional side of the story perfectly and provided appropriate voices for all the characters to make them distinguishable and real. She really got into the character of Merry but without overacting.

There were no issues with the production.

Night Court by Ashley Fontainne is a psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat, unable to quit reading. My knuckles were white, I held by breath. I love vigilante characters and I am behind her 100%, right from the opening pages.

Judge, Jury, Executioner

An irresistible tagline that sucked me in. I had to know…Who? What? WHY?

I’m at 90% and I can only see this ending one way. Will I be right?

Night Court is a masterpiece and Ashley Fontainne’s writing is so good, I’m caught so off guard with how far she went. I am so engrossed in Merry’s life now, that I am not ready for the end, but here goes.

Oh no, enough already. Ashley Fontainne has to snatch my feet right out from under me, leaving me stunned, silenced, my jaw dropping to my chest. The gut wrenching ending leaves me smiling through my teary eyes.

Night Court by Ashley Fontainne delves into the human psyche, not allowing the monsters to stay hidden. The twists and turns are amazing and surprising, so don’t think you know where this will end. If you want to cry for a character, scream at a character, beat a character to a pulp and then beat him again, this is a story for you. My emotion roiled, boiled, screamed and raged to be let loose. CAUTION: May make you want to throw your ereader!
