Fiction. Romance. HTML:

A classic tale of a new generation of cowboys staking claims to their land--and the women they love...

Like his celebrated ancestors, who tamed the wilds of Arizona, Jesse McKettrick's Indian Rock ties run deep. The Triple M Ranch is in his blood, along with the thrill of risk. But with his land at stake, this world-class poker player won't be dealt into Cheyenne Bridges's gamble--despite the temptation she brings.

Cheyenne grew up in Indian Rock and left its painful memories behind to become a self-made woman. Now her job is to convince Jesse to sell his property. Jesse's not the kind of man Cheyenne could ever forget, but he's too wild and dangerous for a woman committed to playing it safe. Yet sparks of attraction fly, tempting Cheyenne to lay it all on the line for the passion she sees in Jesse's eyes.

A woman returns to her home town, to try and persuade the man she crushed on to sell some of his land. It's fun to watch these two play with each other but I'm a bit tired of the withholding vital info storylines

I know 'suspension of disbelief' is sometimes required when reading a work of fiction, but this novel tops them all.

There must be millions of acres of land for sale in the US, but Nigel wants only one piece of land, even though the owner doesn't want to sell, and nothing else will do. For an enormous housing project in the middle of nowhere, near a tiny town. And for some reason he still has investors, even though his latest project was a total disaster.
To top this, the owner of the plot just happens to be an old flame of the woman he sends to do the buying.
There are so many coincidental and illogical things in this novel, it ruined it for me.

The romance itself wasn't very good either. Not much growth in the relationship and boring sex scenes - they were all the same and seemed like copy-paste. Jesse comes across as a spoiled brat and the scenes with Mitch are not enough to redeem him. Also, Cheyenne hates gambling but she is willing to marry a gambler without even addressing the point.

Furthermore, there are too many plot threads which don't lead anywhere: Cheyenne's past in the town, Jesse not wanting to work, the relationship between Cheyenne and her brother, and so on. None of them are really addressed in the end.

I'll give the next book in the series a try, but don't expect much from it at this point. ( )

I've been reading through this McKettrick series for a couple of months now and recently got rather tired of it. However, this volume invigorated my interest. I read it in the space of a couple of days!
Cheyenne Bridges returns to her home town of Indian Rock, AZ because she was ordered by her boss to convince Jesse McKettrick to sell their real estate development company 500 acres of his land for condos. Cheyenne and Jesse, although from the same town, grew up in two different worlds. The McKettrick's have always been local royalty, and Cheyenne grew up in a trailer park with a drunk gambler for a father (and a big, big crush on Jesse). The two have a lot to work out, what with the land issue between them, and the fact that Jesse, a quintessential trust-fund baby, mostly plays poker for a living. Their romance develops in a realistic way, despite of all that threatens to keep them apart. I genuinely liked both characters, and am looking forward to reading about Keegan and Rance, Jesse's cousins and the subjects of the next two books in this series. From their appearances in this book, it sounds like those two will not disappoint! ( )

I think this was the weakest mckettrick story I've read. I just couldn't care about the characters. ( )
