I read this to my 5-year-old neighbor, Everleigh. She says, "I like it!" She laughed at the characters and told them early on what the hole really was. It's a good book for storytime -- short, with large text the kids can read, and can be made interactive by asking kids what they think might be causing the animals to disagree.

This book is based on a fable written by Mark Twain. It is about several animals that see a hole in the wall and get angry with one another because they all see something different when they look in the hole. They all think that the others are lying. When they all look into it together they see everything that they each said was in it and they are happy because they were all correct. The hole is actually a mirror.

This is a good, simple example of a fable and even young children will be able to follow the story. ( )
