I listened to the audiobook version of the classic Roald Dahl book because it's performed by several prominent British actors. Roald Dahl's language is rhythmic and silly, so this book lends itself well to an audiobook format. The story is engaging, but it's the narration by Chris O'Dowd that really makes this book. He does a fantastic job of changing his accent and voices to match the characters. I think Roald Dahl stories are great for reluctant readers, and this audiobook format may capture the attention of a child who does not wish to read the book version. The story of Fantastic Mr. Fox is a little scary, so I wouldn't recommend it to children under the age of nine.
