I rather liked Astrid, but found her a bit too human for my taste. I would have liked to see her go more into her vampness, and have been less afraid of the typical vamp lore cliches. Some of those got a bit over the top, but some like..the Sun.. didn't really affect the vamps, so I found that a bit confusing.
There were parts of the story that I thought moved way to fast. Her love interests, the seasonal changes, the time she spent in Vampville, and the murder mysteries flew by without much happening. It would have been more enjoyable if it was slowed down a bit, so Astrid could follow up on her crushes, and possibly help solve the murders. I liked her relationship with Daniel and Officer Hansen. It was cute to see her and Mike interact, even if she was driving him nuts. LOL. I found those awkward moments adorable.
There were several unexpected twists that kept the story changing, and that was a nice touch. It will definitely be interesting to see what happens to Astrid in further volumes, as the ending was a bit of a mystery. ^_^
Overall, I enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading the next book in the series. I recommend this to anyone that loves a nice teen vampire, high school, urban fantasy read.
Hopefully the next book has more Supernatural shenanigans, Astrid x Mike interaction, tormenting from Angus, Vampville tours, and more of Astrid's birth mystery explained.
