I dizionari possono anche riportarlo come sinonimo, ma tutte le volte che vedevo scritto "quotazione" mi faceva l'effetto di un gessetto che strideva sulla lavagna) ( ) Mazur contends that the laws of probability show that coincidences are very likely when large numbers of instances are involved. He presents several stories of amazing coincidences, and, after presenting a popular account of the law of probability, he analyzes how likely the cases he had presented might be. With lots of assumptions, he shows that the same person winning a lottery 4 times could happen with a reasonable chance, and that a person might find her own copy of a book she had donated to charity in a Paris bookstall. Interesting, easy read, good review Except for a group of chapters on some of the actual mathematics of probability, there's little to recommend this volume over David Hand's _The Improbability Principle_. Most of it consists of analysis of particular coincidence-involving anecdotes and discussion of marginally relevant topics that Mazur happens to be interested in. Worst of all, the ruling out of everything supernatural is less than absolute. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
