This is one of the most fun things I've read in the past months. So. Fucking. Hilarious. I just don't give it 5 stars because it's not one those greatest stories ever told, but it's not mean to be, anyway. This is meant to give you a nice dose of laughter and sarcasm. And lots of blood and killing. Gertrude is awesome! ( )

The ending cracks me up every time!

Hehe that was just as fun the second time around!

***First review on 4 june 2016***
Do you remember the time when you cursed as a child?

The feeling that you were being a badass but at the same time felt guilty as hell?
Because you had to set a good standard for your younger siblings and wanted to please your parents but at the same time resented them for it?

No? That may be just me then.

But this comic felt like that. All those feelings wrapped up in one disturbing story!

Delicious. ( )

I think this is the 1st graphic novel that I have ever finished reading! I loved it so much! Gertrude is truly insane, but who wouldn't be after spending 27 years trapped in Fairyland. I can't wait to read the next volume! ( )

First impression: not my kind of art style.

Second through final impressions: not my kind of humor, either.

And art and humor are the only things going for this, as the plot, of course, is of the most basic sort: character seeks MacGuffin, encounters difficulties.

Why did Gertrude fail so badly at Fairyland even as a proper child? Her helper-insect even back then looks like a schlub; maybe he wasn't helpful enough?

I'm always fond of deconstructions and satires, and the basic premise here (unappealing-to-me art style aside) seemed good enough: kid fails fairyland quest, spends 27 years going violent and crazy. I'm the kind of person who's always thinking to herself, "no don't kiss that person, modern toothpaste doesn't exist yet!" and "I bet the BO at that swanky ball is awful." Buuuut this would have been interesting to me if it'd actually had something to say other than "Over-the-top cartoon violence perpetuated by a sociopath in a 10 year old's body, presented to you for the lulz; repeat." It doesn't even need to be a grimdark ~Serious~ analysis of what would it would truly feel like to be stuck in a child's body while your mind continues to age etc etc etc. to still be more interesting than it was.

Or maybe I've just seen this storyline twisted, satirized, lampooned, deconstructed, and reconstructed so many times already that this take didn't have anything to add other than what another reviewer called "candy-colored ultraviolence." ( )
