* Prominently features diverse characters: brown-skinned Michael looks like he could be of mixed heritage (part black?); also pictured are a younger sibling and the feet/legs of his mom/grandma/caretaker.
* Short enough for toddler storytime, yay! Illustrations are large, colorful, and feature a lot of silly pictures with Michael putting his clothes on the dog in humorous ways, while pointing out the colors of the articles of clothing. Stories with dogs (or any kind of pets) in them usually devolve into sharing sessions with each child wanting to speak up about any experiences with animals they have ever had, so storytellers/teachers will want to be prepared to either make time for that conversation or deflect attention as they see fit.
