There are many thrillers using amnesia in the protagonist to create a mystery. This one uses a slightly different tack, giving the well-used trope a refreshing infusion of originality. Liddy Barron is an artist, in the midst of recovering both physically and mentally from being the victim of a hit-and-run accident. Liddy becomes obsessed with the disappearance of a college student named Sasha Perry and beings to see images of Sasha. Is she hallucinating? Liddy's husband Paul, a scientist, believes Liddy's obsession stems from the injuries she sustained in the accident. Detective Kerri Blasco believes there might be more to it. The story develops at a steady pace. Although told in 3rd person, it is from Liddy's point of view, which makes things interesting, as the reader is trying to figure things out along with Liddy. The conclusion is satisfying if a bit surprising in its unexpected inclusion of a little bit of the supernatural. I didn't mind it, was just surprised by it. I really liked Detective Blasco's character. She's tough but sensitive, and she's a good cop. She knows how to work with her team, but she's still got her own personal issues to deal with. She's real. I look forward to reading the next in the Detective Blasco series! Title: Fear Dreams Author: J.A. Schneider Publisher: R.G.S. Media Series: Detective Kerri Blasco Book 1 Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: Five Review: "Fear Dreams" by J.A. Schneider My Thoughts.... This author really gives the reader a interesting psychological mystery ghost thriller drama read that will keep your attention not being able to put it down till the very end. Who would have thought after artist Liddy Barron who had a horrible accident [being hit by a drunk driver and having amnesia after the accident] will still have trouble improving due to her still having mental trauma. Will Liddy be able to separate her nightmares from reality? Now, why was this? After all she seemed to have a loving husband [Paul], but was that really true? The characters were all well developed, interestingly portrayed and believable giving the reader quite a gripping and intensed read. The storyline was well plotted where the reader will find themselves mesmerized with that ending that I will say I didn't see coming in 'whodunit.'. Be ready for a well written twist and turn story with good descriptions of Libby's paintings and hallucinations that involved what was going on with the 'ghostly Sasha.' How will this come out as Libby starts to have 'growing paranoia and the fear of her own sanity?' To find out the answers to all of these questions and more you will have to pick up this thriller of a read... 'Fear Dreams.' This book has many glowing reviews, but I'm afraid it didn't really grab me. I didn't like the writing style - I found it quite disjointed and jerky. Some of the sentences didn't seem finished, almost as if there were some words missing. The plot was very transparent. I'd had my suspicions about what really happened very early on, so I had to continue reading to see if they were correct. They were! It also very much reminded me of a film I watched a few years ago and this helped with my deductions. Other readers seem to have really enjoyed it. Unfortunately it didn't hit the right notes for me. Christmas came early. After finishing [b: Her Last Breath: Detective Kerri Blasco|32178869|Her Last Breath (Detective Kerri Blasco #2)|J.A. Schneider|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1474513548s/32178869.jpg|52815856]. I went onto Amazon.com to follow the author and got an offer for a free or discounted copy of [b: Fear Dreams: Kerrie Blasco].
From the first page, I was hooked. I started reading at 9:00 p.m., and could not stop until I finished at 12:40 a.m. Worse yet, I lay there thinking about the story, the author, and characters for another hour.
As a voracious reader, I love when the magic of incredible writing snatches me from reality into the story. Puzzles are another passion. When an author can combine mesmerizing writing with difficult puzzles I am addicted.
Liddy Barron, an artist is recovering from a hit and run accident. The gaps in her memory are filled with unclear images of a young woman who is missing.
Like real life, good and disturbing things happen to her. It does not take long for Liddy to doubt her sanity, the loyalty of her husband and her friend. It is not until Detective Kerri Blasco shows up that Liddy is able to face truths about those who surround her.
She and her husband Paul finally leave the cramped bachelor pad he had before them and move into a bigger place.
The circumstances that land them the new place are fraught with sadness and mystery, but it is perfect for their needs. It is closer to the laboratory Paul works as a research scientist. Their home has a studio for her. It is a corner room with windows allowing perfect light for Liddy to paint in.
Yes, I recommend this.
Warning: You may not be able to put this down once you begin reading.
My second Detective Kerri Blasco novel, I am loving this empathetic but tough detective more each time.
I have heard rumors of a new Detective Kerri Blasco novel in the works. [a: J.A. Schneider|5832782|J.A. Schneider|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1448250177p2/5832782.jpg] is a gifted storyteller and she has a new constant reader.
