I thought this book was very cute and inspirational. The meaning of this book is to be true to yourself and to be unique. One thing that I liked about the book was the illustrations. My favorite picture is of the girls sitting on the fence from behind showing that they are all dirty and not prim and proper. The second the I liked about the book was that the words didn’t match the pictures. When the book talked how girls how a lot about make up and the girls were all dressed up as pirates. This book showed that girls follow stereotypes in completely different ways than the usual way. ( )

I like this book that shows that girls are girls, and they can do anything they want, the pictures suggest the stereotype of what boys can do. If I were going to read this book to children, I would also read an opposite book showing boys doing things that are stereotypical of girl.s, and also one on disabilities. Making it a theme about how just because we are different, doesn't mean we can't do the same things.

I liked this book because it had an overall message that was empowering to young girls and encouraged them to be themselves and tells us that we are all beautiful. The author uses illustrations that contrast the text in a way, which is interesting. For example, one page says "beautiful girls have a smart style" but instead of using smart like well dressed, the illustrations show girls studying science things with goggles on. The book also ends with saying that girls make the world beautiful which I think is an important message to young girls to remind them to put beauty from within into the world. ( )

The only thing I didn't like about this book is that it wasn't longer! McAnulty and Lew- Vriethoff teamed up to create a wonderful book describing what young girls should strive to be- complete with vibrant, charismatic, and pleasantly surprising illustrations. The illustrations and words highlight the uniqueness in the word "beautiful" vs the traditional themes. The front cover itself is a great indicator of the flow of the book. The reading level for this is 5-7 or K-2nd but would be a great read for any age. I believe this book is great to show all girls to demonstrate that being beautiful is something that occurs simply from them being unapologetically them. ( )

I loved this book. I enjoyed reading this book for two reasons. The first reason is I really enjoyed how the words and the illustrations do not match up. I think it adds to the story. For example, the author says "Beautiful girls smile sweetly" and in the illustrations the girls are smiling as they eat fruit that's all over their faces. I also like the book because it teaches girls that beauty has different meanings and it isn't all about appearance. For example, it says beautiful girls dress up and its them playing dress up as pirates, to them that was dress up it wasn't them in princess dresses. The lesson of the story is that beauty comes within and that appearances is not what makes you beautiful. ( )
