Before their military heroism in the Clone Wars, before their tragic battle on Mustafar and many decades before their final confrontation on the Death Star, they were Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his young Padawan, Anakin Skywalker. Now join them a few years into Anakin's, "chosen one" training. Teacher and student have grown closer over time, but it's been a difficult road. And things aren't about to get any easier. In fact, when they're called to a remote planet for assistance, the pair may be pushed to their breaking point. As they find themselves stranded on a strange world of primitive technology and deadly natives, will they be able to save themselves? When war breaks out around them, master and apprentice will find themselves on opposite sides!.… (mehr)

Folks seem to be split on whether or not this comic was any good. I think it comes down to if your a prequel fan (flaws and all), a Charles Soule fan, and a fan of Checchetto's art. If you are, you're in luck. This is an intriguing comic. Set between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan and pre-teen Padawan Anakin are sent to investigate a distress signal on a planet that is supposed to be abandoned. The debris field around the planet is almost impossible to get through and they crash land. They soon find their are survivors on the planet and they are at war. In fact, the war has been going on for so long that no one knows which side actually destroyed the atmosphere by unleashing poisonous gas. We also get some flashbacks of Anakin and Palpatine working together, showing just how early Palpatine was working towards influencing Anakin to the dark side and using his power for his political gain and reign of terror. You begin to see that Anakin was questioning his apprenticeship from a young age. The turn to the dark side doesn't just come out of left field in Revenge of the Sith! The seed of doubt and internal struggle that lead to such a decision was planted long before. The characterization of Obi-Wan felt consistent with the films and Marco Checchetto art is spectacular. He creates a fully realized alien world that somehow felt fresh and new and at the same time, familiar in that Star Wars sort of way. ( )

Spring 2020;

I really ended up liking this one, honestly.
For one, the art is absolutely gorgeous and consistent.

For two, I like that these pieces between and around the first trilogy movies really show you the learning, growing, uncertain edges of everyone. There's so much struggle going on for both Obi-Wan and Anakin in this time and place. I love the dedication, the yearning, the searching to belong, to be the person someone else wants you to be or the person you are (/the person you might be).

I had several tiny heart clutch moments, like when we get the word-to-word revelation Obi-Wan would have left with child Anakin if he left the order (because he now has a dedication to Anakin and who he *might* be, the Qui-Gon believed he was, more than his place in the Order even), and on the otherside that adorable "Then, we'll save each other!" from Anakin when they're both having that heart-to-heart on the ship.

All in love, a delightful, feelsy, jedi romp. ( )

the comic is a lot of promising in the beginning. I like the planet they are showing, the new characters and to hear something about Anakins early years as a Jedi. But the story coudn't keep, what it was promising. It became flat and espaccially the ending was bad. They coudn't solve the problem of the war by there own, but have to call the republic, by telling them there is precious gas on the planet. And the lection was, that Jedi are a part of something big, but the Jedi neither wanted to help anakin and Obi nor the people on the planet, but just wanted to earn the gas. Didn't liked the ending ( )

Got this out from the Hummelstown Library for me and Olivia-Grace.

I don't know what it is, just couldn't get into this one as much as I would have liked. The overall plot seemed too convenient, and the characters seemed too cookie-cutter. The factions seemed too obvious and just juvenile "Open" vs "Closed". Why not just say "White" vs "Black" or "Loves Pineapple Pizza" vs. "Hates Pineapple Pizza".

Also, not a huge an of the idea of Anakin wanting to leave the Order and stuff like that. Seems too on the nose with the recent Master & Apprentice (I'm aware this came out first) also having discussion about Rael Averross leaving the order, and Dooku having already left, and things like that.

The slavery thing was a bit overhanded and done too much too and in recent works again as well.

I did enjoy the subplot of Palps and Anakin though, thought that was interesting, small doses of that, sprinkled throughout from his time between EP1 and EP3 would be nice. As long as they don't overdo it. ( )

The character development between the two eponymous characters was somewhat interesting. The pencils were fine, but I didn't care for all the washed out colors and splatter/dirt specks. That's just my opinion, though; the art isn't bad. It's just not to my liking. ( )
