I was very impressed with the writing of this graphic novel, though the artwork is fine too with its appropriately muted colours. It is a collection of tales by survivors of an oppressive Underground society. The Rulers rule, and others survive by joining various crews like the Game Boys or the Dancing Girls. Some have no crew. To the Rulers' chagrin, the Book Boys write truths on walls, in rhyme and using a special blue ink which the Rulers can't duplicate. Rumour abounds that some have reached Outside. The use of parables and an invented religion in the book is interesting and reminded me of the Five Books of Blood by Greg Rucka. An endnote by a real-life psychologist explicitly connects Underground with child abuse survivors. ( ) keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
When there is no longer any reliable source of "news," there is nothing to trust . . . and "The Terror" descends. For decades, The Rulers have been at work, using prisoner/slave labor to construct Underground, believing that all those who flee there will trade their freedom for security. Now, "truth" is what the Rulers say it is, and The Rulers rule all. But even within this antiseptically evil world, a revolution is brewing. A new breed of journalists--known as "The Book Boys"--risk everything to graffiti the truth on Underground's pristine walls. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
