This book is an easy read for children and introduces them to Louisiana's history and the aspects of Louisiana. The book provides pictures along with captions explaining the pictures. The major drawback with this book is the fact that it is too simplistic. It is great for young children but does little to support classroom instruction. The pictures and information presented is mostly accurate. A potential use for this book could be starting a debate on the state of the environment. There is a recipe for gumbo in the back of the book which can be used as a hook in a Louisiana Studies classroom. There is no information about the author present. This book needs a lot more instructional support and should not be used alone in the classroom. ( )
