À Téhéran (et ailleurs) les femmes (aussi) se réunissent et parlent entre elles. Dans la famille Satrapi, ces discussions ont été élevées au rang d’art social. Marjane ouvre la porte et nous invite à pénétrer dans Saint des saints.

Un album peut être un peu moins hallucinant et créatif que Persepolis mais absolument hilarant ! ( )

I grew up with a lot of women. Often I was the only Y chromosome in the family gatherings. The conversations in this book reminded me of that except, in this book they talked more about S-E-X.

Even though they were talking about sex, I was bored. The theme just seemed to be that love sucks and men suck even more.

It's probably just not a book for me.

More great insights on Iranian culture from Satrapi...this time focusing on the women in her life back in Tehran. I loved how it was structured around a (seemingly) single night of tea talk. It was short and sweet--I felt like it could have gone into even more depth and I still would have been enthralled. And holy cow! The title! It is quite deceiving (not unlike the content of the book's pages)...I always thought, "Oh, how nice!" with that pink cover, prim and seductive looking woman, and curlicue script. Not a euphemism for something much more sinister and tragic, and another means of deception, I might add. Recommended! ( )

Hoping for Persepolis 3, I found Embroideries, to be both disappointing and more of the same. The stories of women living in Iran are powerful, and well crafted.

Unfortunately, this is not new territory for Ms. Satrapi. These one-up stories of gossip, sex, and reactionary American ways read lke the out-take scenes from the masterful Persepolis books.

A fun read, like reading a book of lighthearted short stories by an important author. ( )
