Detective Harriet Blue of the Sydney Police Department prides herself on an uncanny ability to catch the most deviant of criminals. So when her brother is charged with a brutal string of murders, it rocks her world. Shocked, in denial, and facing uncomfortable questions about how much she knew, Harry is transferred to avoid the media circus. Investigating the disappearance of a worker in an isolated mine deep inside the desolate Australian outback--the never never--she uncovers an insular society that has sprung up around the mine. It's a world full of easy money, plenty of immoral ways to spend it, and no shortage of suspects. New series for me... it was really a fast paced thriller rather than the drawn out hunt that Alex cross books have become, liked devouring it and glad that #2 in the series picks up where this one has story leads! ( )

I read and loved Hades, And Eden, and even had to order Fall from a store in NZ.I loved the series so much, and the author was fantastic.
This book reflects none of that expert writing. I don't even know what this book is exactly. The writing is boring, simplistic, and seems more like a YA book. The books place almost entirely at a uranium mine in the middle of nowhere Australia. The storyline is beyond far fetched, and worse it isn't interesting.
I don't understand why anyone collaborates with Patterson? It is like neither name listed on the book cover actually wind up writing the book. Steer clear of this stinker. ( )

Took me a while to finish, but it was a great book. I hope there is more in the series… Kind a left it with a cliffhanger! ( )

Hariet Blue (Harry) doit aller enquêter dans une mine où des personnes ont disparues et où on retrouve 3 morts pendant que son frère Sam est accusé de viols et d’assassinats ( )

When Sydney Detective Inspector Harriet “Harry” Blue’s brother Sam is accused of being the Georges River serial rapist/killer, her chief orders her to leave town for a while. Harry can’t believe her brother is guilty, but she is not given a choice - her chief tells her: “Harry, Sam is about to go down as one of the nastiest sexual sadists since the Backpacker Murderer. Whether you think he did it or not, you’re public enemy number two right now. If the press gets hold of you, they’re going to eat you alive.”

Thus Harry is sent to investigate an unexplained death out on a mining camp on the outskirts of the Great Victoria Desert near Kalgoorlie, i.e., in the middle of nowhere.

She is reluctantly teamed up with Detective Inspector Edward Whittacker (“Whitt”), whom she expects is supposed to spy on her regarding any knowledge she might have about Sam.

As the two try to figure out what happened to the dead miner and those who have gone missing, they run into numerous obstacles. The mine is a hotbed of drugs, porn, prostitutes, environmental protestors, and inchoate violence. Many who take the dangerous jobs in the mine are former criminals or soldiers with records. The mine officers are extremely uncooperative.

It is pretty unclear throughout whether Harry and/or Whitt will make it out of the case alive.

Evaluation: The identity of the culprit at the mine was glaringly obvious right from the beginning, and many of the characters were non-nuanced and caricatured to say the least. Nevertheless, I liked Harry and Whitt, and have an interest in seeing where the series goes next. ( )
