"With rhythmic swirls of words and pictures, Suzanne Slade and Stacy Innerst beautifully reveal just how brilliantly Gershwin reached inside his head to create his masterpiece, Rhapsody in Blue. It's a surprising and whirlwind composition of notes and sounds and one long wail of a clarinet-dazzling and daring, just like George Gershwin himself!"--[from book jacket]… (mehr)

Beautifully illustrated in shades of blue, this book digs deep into Gershwin’s creative process rather than just providing a short biography. The rich figurative language reads like a symphony. Author and Illustrator’s Notes, Timeline, Bibliography.

This is a beautifully illustrated and written book about the young life of composer George Gershwin and his influences growing up writing "Rhapsody in Blue". This book is an excellent example of how author's choose to present a text through artistic style to represent the ambiance of his life's work. ( )

Do listen to the music that is mentioned in the book. That is something easy to do in 2017. ( )

This is a book about George Gershwin, and how he became a musician and how he established his own special sound in Jazz. This is a special look at how his Rhapsody in Blue was created. This book is a good example of literature, because of the way that the theme and main focus of the book are translated throughout the starting with the exposition at the beginning of the story describing Gershwin's life. The pictures only in this book kept you wanting to continue reading. It didn't take anything more than just having a piano in front of him to get him to play beautiful music. This eccentric musician did what he wanted and didn't care how others felt about it. He wanted to make a statement and knew exactly how, music was in his heart. Everywhere he went he heard music, even in the train he rode. There is nothing like a "WuahaAAAAAAA" to start this progressive artist's show of modern music. ( )
