This is a great children's book! This book is about a pig who is competitive and always wants to win every chance he gets! This book is intended for an audience who loves to read about winning! I love the ending of the book because it shows an animal being compassionate towards the pig. ( )

Another great, rhyming story about Pig's need to win everything and cheating. It teaches kids how mean cheating is and how it affects others. ( )

PIg is a win-a-holic. He has only ever won and isn't a graceful winner at that. Until one day he enters a battle with his brother to eat the fastest and ends up eating his bowl. This is when he first learns to lose. Losing is a hard lesson to learn for everyone, but the sooner it's learned the better. ( )

Pig, the world's greediest pug, won't play fair. He has to win.

Pig the Winner discusses how Pig has to win or he doesn't want to play. This would be an excellent lesson to discuss competitiveness and how it can get in the way of friendship. Also, when discussing competitiveness it would be beneficial to discuss why it can lead to cheating because you always have to win. This would be helpful to discuss why cheating is wrong and to only do your best in each scenario. This book does have CVCe, CVC, and CV words that could be discussed with students of ages from Kindergarten to 3rd grade. It does have a lot of rhyming as well which would be the primary grades of Kindergarten or 1st grade. The book also lets us read into further use of punctuation, quotations, and prosody. I will use this in my classroom to discuss each of the following above content areas.

Pig the Winner talks about how Trevor and Pig are always playing games, but Trevor wants to play for fun while Pig wants to play to win. If Pig doesn't win then he cry, whimpers, and won't let it go until Trevor tells him he won or lets him win. When Trevor tells Pig he won (even if he hadn't) Pig leaps for joy and starts to gloat. One day, Pig wanted to compete with Trevor about how fast he could eat. Well Trevor said he didn't want to play, but Pig didn't care so he started anyway! Well Pig ate so fast that he swallowed his bowl! His good friend Trevor was able to get the bowl out until... Pig after the bowl came flying out yelled " I WIN." Just then the bowl came back and hit Pig in the head. It knocked Pig right into the trash can. Now Pig isn't as competitive as he used to be, but still once in awhile cheats.
