A hit man, a former military man, and an artist; all lost souls. Learning about their past tragedies it was hard not to feel companionate towards them. In short spying, drunken people, bullet flying, traitors, lusting, and some threesome sex. The focus was on the guys rather than the mystery or the sex; their feelings and their struggles. I want to read the second book. I believe there are 8 of them already out. Zeige 4 von 4 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Sloane Kennedy has been hit or miss for me in the past. I really liked her book Four Ever and I gave it five stars but I didn't love the beginning of the books set in this world with the beginning of the escorts (is that what its called?) series. I think I gave that one three stars as well. I don't mind her writing style or anything, sometimes the plot is just too much for me, or not quite enough.
With this book, there was just too much going on for me. For the first 40% Mace, one of the three main characters, thinks that Jonas, one of the other characters, is a pedophile. However, despite that, Mace still begins to fall in love with him. I thought this framing was super weird. It would have been one thing if Mace had been given proof that Jonas was innocent in the first quarter of the book, it would have been different, but this plot line continued for almost half the book. I kind of like that this book dealt with heavier topics in a pretty respectful way but this relationship starting when one party thought the other was a child abuser was something I couldn't get behind.
Once the relationship really started to take off, I did like Cole, Mace, and Jonas. The characters were part of what keep me reading and engaged through the the crazy story. However, even though I did like the characters, I had a hard time believing their relationship. It just seemed like it came out of no where and it did seem sort of like insta-love or at least insta-lust. I can sometimes forgive this in shorter romances like this but given the background with Mace and Jonas and the fact that Cole didn't even realize he might be attractive to men before meeting Mace and Jonas, it felt much more unrealistic.
I'm not sure if I want to continue with this series. Given how much I liked Four Ever, I feel like I could find another Sloane Kennedy book I would really like but this one was a miss for me unfortunately. I think in the future I may pick up another one in this series in the future, but I'm not dying to read the next one. ( )
