The Town of Warrensburgh, New York was created on February 12, 1813. Three decades before that the first settlers came to establish homesteads in an area bordered by the Schroon River to the east and bisected by the Hudson River at the confluence of the two rivers in the Adirondack Mountain foothills. Virgin forested lands offered wealth in timber and tanning, and eventually paper manufacture. A seventy-foot drop in a three-mile stretch of the Schroon River offered ample opportunity for water power. This book is about the men and women who brought Warrensburg from a small settlement on the frontier of a fledgling nation to a thriving industrial community with thousands of jobs.
