This book gives you information about what its like to be a soldier in the Civil War.I agree that you wouldn't want to be one.Its a good book and I liked reading it not like most nonfiction book.I recommend this book for study purposes. It really taught me tons about the war. It was interesting and it was easy to read in the arrangement.
This book informs you that you or your best friend could've ended up dead .More than 20,000 people died in one of the battles.People watched the war from the side to see how each side was doing. The North ended up winning but the South won the first 2 battles. If Virginia just stopped slavery this many Americans wouldn't have died. This war is also called the (bloody war)!I know in 7th grade you have to do reports about the civil war. This book has a lot of information and would help a lot when I do this project in social studies next year. You wouldn't want to be a civil war soldier for many reasons. If you get wounded in battle it has a risk of becoming infected. There are no antibiotics, so if your wound is infected it will be amputated and that will hurt a lot. You also don't get your own bed. Well actually there aren't beds. You just split a tent with another soldier, and you have to carry it wherever you go. The food isn't the best, and the uniforms can be very uncomfortable. You have to bathe in a lake or river, and you have to be away from your family for an unknown amount of time. That doesn't sound fun at all.
This book was actually pretty interesting. I learned a lot about how soldiers felt about the civil war. I have taken some tours through the places in Germany, like bunkers and other places where a battle happened, but this book taught me a lot more. There were some interesting facts like how you had to split a tent. I learned that afterwards you could keep things that could help you in your regular life. I thought that getting your leg amputated because it was infected really freaked me out. Now I am really happy that we have antibiotics and medicine to use. This book could have been better, but it also could have been worse. ( )

This nonfiction book tells about the bloodiest war about the right to own slaves, the civil war. It tells about the major battles and what life everyday for the union troops was like.It also tells about before and after the war and during winter and summer. In summer they fight, in winter they have a lot of free time for themselves.

I like this book for being very informative about the civil war but also being humorous. you learn about several different battles and all the details about everyday life.I recommend this book if you need or want to learn about the civil war for a report ar just to learn.

It is 1860 and Abraham Lincoln is elected as president. You are a normal farmer living on a farm in Connecticut. You decide to go to war when the president calls for volunteers to sigh up for 90-day enlistments in the army. It isn't easy to persuade your wife to come with. It was a good idea to bring your wife with, because she could cook and do your laundry. To defend yourself you have a Sharps rifle. Some soldiers that were wounded in battle had limbs that needed to be amputated, because there were no antiseptics or antibiotics. After four years the war ended. You and your wife can go back to your farm in Connecticut.

I gave this book three stars, because I felt it had creative illustrations. The author could grab the attention of the reader, and was able to stay focused on what was important. The book was very informative, and was a easy read. I really don't have any complains about the book. If I had one suggestion it would be that I didn't really like that the author only talked about the soldiers that came from the north. He didn't really mention the soldiers from the South. Still overall the book was very good. ( )

This book was absolutely interesting. The story is told in your perspective. You are a farmer living in a small town in Connecticut. You enlist in the Union army. The story gives you facts about each war in the Civil War from the First Bull Run to the Battle of New Orleans. It also gives you information on the levels of the army, what they ate (Confederate and Union Soldier) , what happens if you get wounded, and other interesting facts. It also gives you information on the bloodiest battles or fights.

I gave this book four stars. Why? This book gave an interesting amount of facts mixed in with a fun filled atmosphere. The pictures were an additional part of the book. The pictures were one of the reasons why it was enjoyable. The book was also a pleasure to read and extremely a good boost for knowledge. Although this book was good, I wish there was more information about how the Confederate soldiers life was like compared to the Union Soldiers. Overall it was an entertaining and astonishing book.
