(Review by Zoe, aged 6.) It's about a princess who actually doesn't really want to live in a castle. She loves the wild. She goes off into the gardens and explores. In the pond she finds a crocodile who loves eating cupcakes. The princess and the crocodile sort of get along. They make a deal to try to both get what they want. ( )

This book is a fun and creative story about a princess who yearned for a companion. I really enjoyed this book because it was funny and the story was very engaging. The book is written in the third person, which gives it a feel of a narrator. The story is split up into chapters. Within each chapter, we learn more and more about Princess Cora and her relationship with her crocodile companion. The language used in this book is very descriptive and does a good job creating a scene. The illustrations also help the reader to further picture what is going on within the story. The illustrations are done with very vibrant colors and the objects in which are present in the illustration are clear. The characters in this book are easy to like. The whimsical element of the talking crocodile gives the book an interesting take on friendship. The main message in this book is that it is okay to speak up for yourself and the things you want. At the beginning of the book, Princess Cora wasn't happy with what her parents and nanny were making her do, but through her friendship with the crocodile, she found her voice. ( )

Practically perfect in every way. ( )

This book was a fun roller coaster of moments. while being veiled with absurdist humor, the subjects it tackles are much deeper than it appears. Discussions on Control, anatomy, having a voice, learning emotional intelligence, anger, coping. communication, having an advocate, compromise and learning to both speak up for yourself while also being respectful were all elements covered. It also had great vocabulary to be discussed such as words like "mammal" and "reptile." There were some problematic moments to me in this book that I believe would need further discussion: The line "little girls have hair" when not all little girls have hair, along with moments of violence and the line "I wish I was dead" were areas I think left untouched could be concerning.

Adorable.
Loved the OCD nanny, as I have the same disorder and her 3 bath a day rule, which was strictly enforced would work perfectly for me !!!

Loved the sassy crocodile too - he would gladly nibble and chew humans but much preferred his cream puffs, much like me !
