( ) Sci-fi/fantasy, first pub in 2000. Fascinating world, divided between an advanced society living in the Castle with highly structured classes and a more primitive society outside the Castle that no one in the Castle knows about. So many interesting and mysterious elements, that you just want to read on to find out more. Nix writes very well and the characters are believable and sympathetic enough. I'm ready for volume 2! There are definitely better books out there, but this was one of my favorites as a kid. My copies are in terrible shape from being read so much when I was younger, being crammed into school bags, and being thrust upon friends. This was also the first book that sort of opened my eyes to the idea that authority figures can, in fact, lie to you in order to maintain authority, which is an idea that I keep in mind to this day. I'm going to be truthful here, I don't actually remember everything about these books. I read them when I was a wee one. I'm sure you're wondering why on Earth I'd give it such a high ranking if I don't remember much about it. Well, I might not remember every detail about the books, but I do remember how much I enjoyed them and how I couldn't wait to turn the page to see what happened next. I remember how excited I was after I read the ending and how mock-excited my parents were, because they knew they were going to have to listen to me talk about it for a week. I got older, and my memory faded a bit but I remember those feelings and though they may just be nostalgia on my part, the fact that it was able to stick with me enough to create those feelings counts enough for me. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
