Living in New Orleans, where the occasional flood is not so occasional, Flood Warning gives the reader personal insight about flooding, and how it affects our neighborhoods and environment. Given the geographical area, children can use background knowledge from personal experiences to make connections to gain a better concept of the process. The illustrations are perfectly matched with the age level as well as the informational text. The book also looks at the point of view of other cultures such as the Egyptians, and how they saw flooding as a ritual, something they encouraged. Comparing and contrasting different point of views touches on ELA standards students could implement through writing. ( )
