(3.88) | 1 | Originally compiled in the 1950s and early 1960s, the Wainwright walking guides are perhaps the most distinctive and unusual such guides ever devised. The result of painstaking and lengthy research by their namesake and author over a period of thirteen years, the guides have retained their original format and design to this day. The books contain intricate hand drawn sketches by the author, detailing routes of ascent, and gradients of the hills in and around the Lake District and outlying regions. Die Informationen stammen von der englischen "Wissenswertes"-Seite. Ändern, um den Eintrag der eigenen Sprache anzupassen. BOOK SEVEN is dedicated to ALL WHO HAVE HELPED ME sometimes with advice, sometimes with information, sometimes with no more than a friendly nod or smile. They are too many to be named, and indeed some are unknown, anonymous fellow-walkers who pass the time of day and are gone. I must, however, thank my wife, for not standing in my way, and a few special friends who would not ask for identification here, for making the way easier for me to travel. It has been a long and lonely way, but I have trodden it increasingly aware of the goodwill and encouragement of many kind people, most of whom I shall never meet. And now, after thirteen years, I have come to the end of it and my final task, a difficult one, is to find words adequate to express my appreciation to everyone who has helped. The least I can do, and the most I can do, is to acknowledge my debt by this dedication.

[Author's note]. Any division of the Lakeland fells into geographical districts must necessarily arbitrary, just as the location of the outer boundaries of Lakeland must always be matter of opinion.
Introduction. If Lakeland can be thought of as being circular in plan, the Western Fells may be described as being contained within a wide sector, the apex driving deep into the heart of the district at Sty Head and the boundaries running therefrom northwest along the Cocker, jewelled by the lovely lakes of Buttermere and Crummock Water, and southwest along Wasdale towards the sea.

This is Book 7 of Wainwright's guides to the Lake District, covering the Western Fells. If this is not your book, please edit the title of the your copy to leave out the "being an illustrated account" bit, as the system gets confused if the title is too long.
This should include the 50th Anniversary Edition, but please do not combine this with the 2nd Edition, which contains updated information.
