Despite the first third of the book feeling like a bit of a rehash of past plot points at times, I could NOT stop reading, and on the whole this finale was enjoyable. It wasn’t quite what I expected, or even wished for, but in the end felt right. “Sky” is full of heartbreak and angst, but also really beautifully tender moments and a very raw, real sense of what it means to be alive (even if it's a little cliched at times). I don’t want to drag this review out, so I’ll just say that the Ember series means a lot to me, and while I still can’t believe it’s over I’m so happy I got to spend the last 5 years reading and waiting for each new book. ( ) This is the final instalment of Sabaa Tahir's An Ember in the Ashes series. And if you've read the previous books from the series, you already know that Sabaa is an author who likes to torment her characters, but also likes to give some hope, some romance, and a lot of pain. Sabaa is a great storyteller and a talented writer. She creates this world and characters that feel so real, the story flowing like silk and is easy to read. But be prepared for a few heartbreaks! I still mourn two particular deaths ... seriously, why did they have to die? My favourite character is Helene. She's brave, strong, determined, and fiercely loyal. Before I even started reading the book, I knew I wanted her to have the happy ending that she so truly deserves. Despite by heartbreak, I still love how this series ended. I love all the characters, including the Nightbringer, and appreciate what happens to him in the end. I appreciate the message of hope, love and humanity. This is one of those series that will stay with me for a long time. Oh, my heart. This last installment of the series was everything you want a last installment to be, heart-felt, incredible depth, loose ends tied up in unexpected ways, fully-developed character-driven plots all merging into one smooth ending. I laughed, I cried, and I will mourn the ending of a series to which I've given my heart and soul. Definitely read the entire thing. Read it nice and slow, so you aren't left with a gaping hole, like me. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Picking up just a few months after A Reaper at the Gates left off... The long-imprisoned jinn are on the attack, wreaking bloody havoc in villages and cities alike. But for the Nightbringer, vengeance on his human foes is just the beginning. At his side, Commandant Keris Veturia declares herself Empress, and calls for the heads of any and all who defy her rule. At the top of the list? The Blood Shrike and her remaining family. Laia of Serra, now allied with the Blood Shrike, struggles to recover from the loss of the two people most important to her. Determined to stop the approaching apocalypse, she throws herself into the destruction of the Nightbringer. In the process, she awakens an ancient power that could lead her to victory--or to an unimaginable doom. And deep in the Waiting Place, the Soul Catcher seeks only to forget the life--and love--he left behind. Yet doing so means ignoring the trail of murder left by the Nightbringer and his jinn. To uphold his oath and protect the human world from the supernatural, the Soul Catcher must look beyond the borders of his own land. He must take on a mission that could save--or destroy--all that he knows. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
