I'm kind of sitting here like, what really was it about this book. The story was pretty interesting, but it was just beyond the type of believable that makes good fantasy, even YA. I liked Claidi and the rest of the characters, but her problems never seemed life threatening enough. I mean, we have some obvious betrayal and a kind of out of the blue romance, since the second wasn't set up all that well in my opinion, even if it was really, glaringly obvious. Maybe the obviousness of everything was kind of annoying. Also, she never questions why he would need to go so out of his way just to apparently bring back a wife, which was kind of what it seemed at first when he started being ADAMANT about her coming with him. I understand being blinded by love, especially first love but . . . The ending was also really ridiculous. A part of me wants to believe it but it seemed too fabricated for me.

Anyway, the book was still cute and I do want to read the next books. ( )

This was a pretty good, normal old fantasy. A nice way to pass the time, with interesting characters and a plot with open ends for future books.

Claidi is a much-abused slave in a great palace known as the House. She believes this is what her life will be, until a handsome and interesting prisoner named Nemian is captured one day. When the chance to escape with him is given, Claidi seizes on it and begins a quest into the unexplored land known as the Waste. There, she will encounter many different tribes and cities of people, some friendly, some dangerous. But when they finally reach Nemian's city and its Wolf Tower, will all of Claidi's hopes come crashing down?

The characters are a bit one-dimensional, but enjoyable all the same. Claidi grows and changes realistically, although sometimes she's a bit unbelievable in her ignorance and silliness. The plot and setting definitely have quite a few original bits, and the end is left open for a lot more interesting adventures, where I'll hopefully get to know more about these characters and this world. An enjoyable read, especially for young teens. It was one of my favorite books at that age. Since it's written in diary form, the style can be a bit slow. If you stick with the whole series, the read is definitely worth it. ( )

While Tanith Lee writes both fantasy and scifi I would have to say that
my favorite genre of hers is fantasy.
She has a unique voice when she weaves classic fairy tales into her
Own unique works.
The wolf tower series is no different. A delight to read a keeper to the collection! ( )

An interesting young adult novel. I've just finished rereading it because I couldn't remember what it was about since I read it so long ago.

A young servant is whisked away to a different city, away from the House and only place she's ever known. She learns the hard truth about people and life and her journey is just beginning. Written in first person as if it were a journal. Sometimes the grammar isn't correct, but then again it's written like a dairy so I can't complain too much. Good read for kids. ( )
