Fiction. Literature. Romance. HTML:In the bustling restaurants, shops, and cafés of Portland, Oregon, things really heat up for the hard-working men behind the scenes when the holidays come into town . . .

For a stationery store owner, the holidays are great for business. But for Hollis Alcott, Christmas reminds him of the tragic events of three years past, and the last thing he wants to do is take part in Portland's over-abundance of festive cheer. But Sawyer Murphy, a hunky gift shop owner whose brother is married to Hollis's sister, has made it his mission to pluck Hollis out of his holiday blues. And his plan is beginning to work. Wrapped in the warm glow of newfound passion, the former business rivals hit up Portland's finest holiday traditions??and Hollis's icy attitude begins to melt like snowflakes on his tongue. But he isn't sure he can trust anyone with the only gift he has??his heart??without breaking it like an antique ornament. Unless he can find the courage to take a leap with the one lover he never expected . . .

This ebook arrived just after midnight, which was a great surprise since I'd forgotten I'd pre-ordered it. And then, it turned out to have another surprise. No, two.

1) First person, single point of view sometimes feels limiting, but in this case it totally serves the plot. We see everything from an introvert's point of view. As an introvert, (though less obsessive and without the painful past event), I approve fiercely, gladly.

2) The revelation of very specific kink needs was so sweetly handled, I cried. I did.

This is a Christmas story in intense ways, and even the last segment continues it. I loved it. You don't need to have read any of the other novels for this one. Read it, have a merry Christmas too. :) ( )

Wrapped Together is the fifth book in the Portland Heat series. It’s included in the second book bundle of books 4-6. In this story, the main characters are Hollis Alcott, a very restrained stationary store owner and Sawyer Murphy, a gift shop owner. The story is told in first person through Hollis’ eyes.

I’m making my way through this book set and will give my overall view of it after I finish Book 6. As for this story, I didn’t like it. Nothing worked for me, even though it was centered around the holidays and I love holiday stories.

Hollis and Sawyer are related. They are twins and their twin siblings are married to each other. All four of the siblings hung out in school. Hollis has always been the more restrained one, Sawyer loud and gregarious. After the death of Hollis’ parents, he lost all joy. Sawyer takes it as a challenge to break Hollis out of his Grinch mood and they make a bet. This is one of the things I didn’t like about Sawyer; Hollis was a challenge to be worked out, to be changed. That was the way the author wrote Sawyer, but the problem with that was, the author never convinced me Sawyer had changed by the end of the book. His epiphany was too quick and convenient and happened off page. We’re told he had a change of heart and mind. I didn’t believe it because I didn’t feel it. Nor did I believe Hollis’ change of heart either. Maybe it was because his voice was flat throughout the story. I suppose that indicates the kind of restrained character Hollis was, but it didn’t work for me. I found him boring. Both characters seemed forced and I wasn’t convinced they worked as a couple. Again, like Book 4, there was a lot of informing how the guys are feeling rather than creating emotions that pulled me in. I didn’t feel a connection to either of the men because of it.

I noticed a trend in this author’s books to include men who are Dominant and submissive. It’s BDSM light, but it’s there. I would prefer more variety instead of stereotyping men into set roles. Besides, it’s predictable, which means this author’s books will probably get boring for me since the same formula is used. Another thing I didn’t like about the book was that there was too much sex. The story wasn’t so much about building a relationship, but about sex. Honestly, I was so bored; I constantly put down the book before returning to read it. Then my first thought was, “When is this over?” I found this story very boring.

I’ve read other books by other authors with the Christmas theme of turning the Grinch into, if not a lover of Christmas, at least tolerant of the holidays, and they were better written. I have to admit I was disappointed in Wrapped Together. It tells how the men feel rather than creating mood and emotion. The relationship is predictably similar to other books the author has written, and I didn’t connect or was convinced Hollis and Sawyer worked together as a couple. I can only give this story 2 Stars.

Hollis seemed so prickly at the beginning that I was very surprised to see how close he was to Sawyer, but I loved how it was all explained. Hollis was really in a bad space after his parents passed, and being a quiet introvert already led him to being more reclusive. I was glad to see Sawyer pull him out of his darkness and show him how to be happy again. ( )
