A New York chocolatier lands in a sticky situation when she returns to her Amish roots in this debut cozy mystery by the Agatha Award-winning author.

Bailey King is living the sweet life as assistant chocolatier at a famous New York chocolate company. But just when she's up for a major promotion, she gets word that her grandfather Jebidiah's heart condition has worsened. Bailey rushes to Harvest, Ohio, where her grandparents still run Swissmen Sweets, the Amish candy shop where she first learned about delicious fudge, truffles, and other assorted delights.
Unfortunately, Baily's grandparents are suffering from more than just heart trouble. A local Englisch land developer is trying to take over their shop. And when the man is found dead in the candy shop kitchenâ??with Jebidiah's chocolate knife buried in his chestâ??the sheriff suspects Bailey. Now, with the sweet help of a handsome deputy, Bailey is out to clear her name. But as a cunning killer tries to fudge the truth, she may be headed straight into a whole batch of trouble . . .

Bailey works as a chocolatier in New York and is a rising star in her field, but she travels to rural Ohio to visit her Amish grandparents because her grandfather is seriously ill. She plans to return to New York soon, but that does not work because the body of a businessman is found in the kitchen of her grandparents' candy shop.

I enjoyed this book much more than I expected: The story, the characters, the atmosphere. I only have basic knowledge of the Amish, but I liked how little bits of information were included in an organic way that did not hinder the flow.
The story drags a bit in the second quarter and the murderer lacks a motive - at least it isn't explained - , but otherwise it was a good cosy read and I am looking forward to the next one. ( )

Standard Cozy Mystery through Audible. Rarely find anything special in cozy mystery books, but I do love to listen when I want something light and fun to pass the time during chores. ( )

A cute cozy mystery, in which a city girl chocolatier finds herself in the middle of a murder in Amish country, and has to make peace with her values. Nothing more than you see on the tin, but the tin is an easy genre read with all the highlights and lowlights that go along with that. ( )

Bailey is an up and coming chocolatier in NYC and is just about to be named the successor of her mentor and owner of a famous chocolate...place (chocolaterie?) when she gets a call that her grandfather is seriously ill. So, she drops everything and heads home to the middle of Amish country in Ohio. Her grandparents run a chocolate shop in a small Amish town, which sounds cozy and welcoming as heck, but then of course there's a murder, right in the chocolate shop's kitchen. And Bailey is Suspect Number One.

A good, solid start to a new (for me) cozy mystery series. Very Hallmark-like, what with the Big City Girl coming back to Small Town Midwest, needing to choose between the a-hole boyfriend she left behind in the city and the handsome and sweet small town deputy she finds here. Plus, I didn't at all guess correctly who the killer was, which is always a good sign. I'll likely continue with the series. Bonus: it's set in an area of Ohio that's nearby to me! ( )

Bailey King is a NYC chocolatier about to be promoted in a prestigious chocolate shop. Her grandmother in Ohio calls Bailey to come at once as grandfather's heart is failing and he is in the hospital. What Bailey has told no one, not even her best friend Cass, is that her grandparents are Amish. Bailey rushes to her grandparents' home above their Swissman Sweets candy shop. A land developer is buying up all the local Amish businesses, and is pressuring Bailey's grandparents to sell out, too. Her first night at her grandparents, Bailey goes downstairs after everyone is asleep, to get her phone which she left charging down in the candy kitchen (the only place where electricity was allowed.) She can't open the kitchen door, due to something partially blocking the door. A dead man was in her grandparents' candy kitchen. The first half the book was rather slow moving as the author introduces the reader to the small Amish/English community of Harvest, Ohio. There are many quirky Amish and English characters to become acquainted with. This is a decent introduction to a series. ( )
