"An extraordinary collection of interviews with the beloved doctor and author, whose research and books inspired generations of readers. Oliver Sacks--called "the poet laureate of medicine" by the New York Times--illuminated the mysteries of the brain for a wide audience in a series of richly acclaimed books, including Awakenings and The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, and numerous The New Yorker articles. In this collection of interviews, Sacks is at his most candid and disarming, rich with insights about his life and work. Any reader of Oliver Sacks will find in this book an entirely new way of looking at a brilliant writer"--… (mehr)

This is the second book in this *Last Interview* series that I have read (the first was with Nora Ephron). I have been an admirer of Oliver Sacks for many years and have read several of his works. This slim volume include 6 interviews spanning from 1987 all the way through to his final one just 2 months before his death in 2015. The interviewers included Terry Gross, Studs Terkel and Charlie Rose.

What I appreciated was Sacks's candor about himself, both in regards to his personal involvement with his patients, as well as his own personal private life. His humour and his humanity shine through, even though he is admittedly a very shy man.

I recently bought and look forward to reading his memoir, On the Move. ( )

Oliver Sacks, neurologist, and author of many books about mental disorders of all kinds passed away in 2015 at 82. The Last Interview is an extraordinary collection of interviews throughout the years with this personally involved and committed doctor. He gave sparsely interviews upon the launch of new books like Awakenings and The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, and numerous The New Yorker articles. For the rest, he preferred executing his profession.

Some of the interviews in this compilation don't go beyond platitudes, others reveal surprising insights on the close collaboration with Robin Williams for the Awakenings movie, recurring cancer and vision problems in his own life, homosexuality, and discovery people suffering from neurological diseases in remote places. Get to know this brilliant writer from a different point of view than the narrator of amazing case studies. ( )
