Turnbull packs more into one sentence than many authors manage to get into their paragraphs. He gives a very human eye to the Division P characters based in a Central Glasgow, painting darkly and made darker still by the personal demons that good guys and bad guys alike do battle with. His autopsy scene is one of the best descriptions I have run across, avoiding the cliches and getting on with the detail. The enjoyment is more in the glimpses of lives lived in a time and place and less with the twists and turns of a whodunnit. ( )

not a mystery exactly but good. sussock the cop is not that interested in being a cop and goes the easy way. his boss donoghue is very sharp. a twist on the usual sharp detective with the thick irritating boss. ( )
