This is first in a new series with Eric Flint and newcomer Alistair Kimble. The action takes place in the Chicago area and it seems there is a cult kidnapping and sacrificing people to bring their god into our world. As Agent Jasper Wilde is joined by an agent out of the DC area that works for a division he has never heard of before they try and stop the cultists from killing anyone else and maybe stop whatever it is from coming into our world. They do find allies that have been fighting against these monsters for a long time and use their help to beat back the evil.

A solid good story and a nice beginning to what hopefully will be a long and fun series.

In this sub-urban fantasy, set in the dreary post-industrial decrepit north-west corner of Indiana, Chicago adjacent. A mix of FBI flavors and locals take on some Lovecraftian horrors. [[Eric Flint]] has teamed up with FBI Special Agent [[Alistair Kimble]] for this one. There is the central character who is divorced. at odd with his superiors and can't keep from saying the wrong thing. Like at least 90% of other crime related fiction I've encountered in the past decade. I'm tired of reading it.
The first half of the book seems decently written and the language flows well enough to keep the story going, but just as the action heats up the editing burns out and there is lots of awkward language and strange constructions.
The typical dysfunctional central character aside, the other characters and the interactions were the best part of this book, unless you can describe a bleakly depressing evocation of the northern mid-west good. ( )

This may be the start of a series. If book two comes out & looks interesting I might read it. I didn't really like most of Iron Angels so if number two ends up similar I probably won't be reading book number 3. ( )

Reads like a not very good knock-off of a 50s hard boiled detective paperback. Flint should not waste his time on books like this. It would enable him to devote more writing and story management time to the 1632 Series ( )
