Goulden (22 Nov 1973) This is carelessly written book about big-shot Washington lawyers: Covington & Burling; Clifford, Warnke, Glass, McIlwain, & Finney; Arnold & Porter; Tommy Corcoran; Mudge, Rose, Guthrie & Alexander (really a New York firm--Nixon's old firm); and others. I said to myself I would not want to be one of those super-lawyers although it might be fun to be a little shot at a place like Covington & Burling. The book carps at the lawyers, but I did not agree that these guys were not entitled to practice law and make money if they can. But I was glad to be a mere Iowa lawyer--probably helped by the fact that the day before I finished the book I had won a jury case I did not expect to win. ( )
