The hero is cold for his own reasons which I won't spoil and is all about doing his duty for his country and I understand that its important and there is unrest that must be settled but what troubled me was he ended up playing with the emotions of a young child, his son. He as an adult and a father had a responsibility to look after, protect and even bear the brunt of things for his child but instead he treats the heroine like he does at the end(which is bad enough) but also his son who is a young and impressionable young man.
I felt that both the heroine and her son maybe would have been better off without him if he is so selfish to put himself before the child. ( )

Heroine was a doormat. Hero was an asshat. What could have been a great story of secdon chnaces instead is a story of selfishness and blame. I found myself not caring about the outcome. ( )
