( ) An omnibus edition of a collection of short stories from the 1920s, a full length Poirot novel, and some miscellaneous short stories. I enjoyed the 1920s collection of short stories involving Mr. Satterthwaite as the detective prompted by the mysterious, possibly supernatural, Mr. Quin. The Poirot mystery was spoiled a bit for me by the use of Mr. Satterthwaite. I kept expecting Mr. Quin to put in an appearance, but of course he didn't. It was all down to the little grey cells. I'd read the miscellaneous stories before but still found the tangled melded family confusing in the last story. And Mr. Satterthwaite is very well preserved. If he was in his 60s in the 1920s, he must have been well over a hundred in 1971. Zeige 2 von 2 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

A brand new omnibus that perfectly illustrates Agatha Christie, the Queen of Crime's, lighter side - and also features her own favourite creation Mr Harley Quin. Harley Quin is an enigma. He appears and disappears unexpectedly - and usually by strange tricks of the light caused by stained-glass windows or flickering firelight. His background, family and friends are all a mystery - his almost supernatural powers of detection are, however, very real. Mr Satterthwaite is all together more normal - fundamentally a snob, he live the carefree lifestyle of a bachelor whilst indulging his hobbies. Yet, beneath this facade is a deep vein of loneliness that compels him to observe everyone and everything. Sattherthwaite's skills of observation are honed by Quin's subtle questioning, bringing to light the most pertinent clues in any crime. With each acting as a catalyst for the other, the criminal fraternity had best beware... This volume brings all the Quin and Satterthwaite novels and short stories together for the first time, and showcases the pair's talents in a way that clearly explains why Agatha Christie herself was so fond of her creations: 'The Love Detectives'.
