She's gone over the river and through the woods, but who will protect her from the Big Bad Wolf? Rojita is in trouble; all she needs to do is get her grandfather's will to Abuela in Everland, but she's being chased by El Lobo, one of the West's most notorious gunslingers. It isn't until she's thrown herself head-long into danger that she realizes the old adage about frying pans and fires applies. She's in desperate need of a protector, and hires the first man who comes along to get her safely to Everland. Bounty hunter Hank Cutter is more than ready to retire to a lonely little cabin in Arizona, to hang up his gun and find peace. He'll begrudgingly help the reckless young woman get to the nearest train station, because he figures she'd get into even more trouble on her own. But when El Lobo struts back into his life-Hank still has the scars from their last encounter-he knows that he can't leave Rojita at the gunslinger's mercy. Maybe he's nobler than he'd thought, because he's soon setting a trap to save the lovely, impetuous Red. The only problem is that she's still keeping a secret that could destroy his trust. ************************************************ The Brides of Everland, Ever After Step into Everland, Wyoming, where the people on the street are more than what they appear, and there's just a hint of magic in the air. From evil villains to mysterious godmothers, handsome cowboys to hidden princesses... welcome to Everland, Ever After. I try to express only my most honest opinion in a spoiler-free way. Unfortunately, there is still always a risk of slight spoilers despite my best efforts. If you feel something in my review is a spoiler please let me know. Thank you.

Rojita is being hunted by El Lobo (The Wolf). After escaping him the first time and falling from her horse. Hank Cutter finds her lying in the snow. Now Rojita must convince the handsome Hank to protect her from El Lobo and get her to Everland and her Grandmother with her Grandfathers will in tow.

Likes:
~Little Red Riding Hood retelling
~Clean romance
~Held my attention
~Familiar characters from other fairytales

Dislikes:
~Insta-love born from only physical attraction
~Dull plot. The whole story was romance-driven
~Hank is kinda an alpha jerk

So I did like this story. It got and then held my attention throughout. It was short so I expected the romance to develop fast. However, they had known each other a total of 3 days before they both 'knew' they loved each other. While I can accept her love for him because he was kind to her, protected her, risked his own life for her. The only reason I can come up with as to why he would fall for her is her looks. You don't really get to know enough of her personality for him to fall for her in that way. Oh yeah and he proposes at the end. After only 3 days.

It was an interesting retelling though told in Wild West theme. Everland, Wyoming sounds like a very interesting place with lots of familiar characters from fairytales. And while I get that it's set in a different time. Rojita's weak and submissive personality is just a little much for me. Same with Hank's overbearing and overprotective personality. He goes a bit above and beyond with calling her a fool and basically treating her like a child.

All in all, though it was a cute and short book. I can see myself reading more from this series and possible all of them. Especially if they continue to be on KU. ( )

Fluffy romance based off of Little Red Riding Hood. This is the second I've read in this series, and likely the last. The story is cute, but there really isn't much substance. The thought of a fairy-tale based town in the Old West is fun, but the execution doesn't really leave me satisfied. ( )

If I had to describe this historical western/romance re-telling of Little Red Riding Hood in one word, "Sweet" is the first word that comes to mind. Maybe a tad too sweet for me, but a kind of easy comfort read... think hot cocoa with melted marshmallows beside a cozy fire or chocolate chip cookies still warm from the oven and you get what I mean. I did enjoy Lee's inventiveness of a 1875 Wyoming Territory setting to replace "the woods", a Mexican gunslinger El Lobo to assume the role of "big bad wolf", a seasoned bounty hunter Hank Cutter as the "woodsman" and, of course, sweet orphanage-raised Rojita as our damsel in distress, "Red". Lee knows her fairy tales - this is only one book in a growing series of books - so it was rather fun to discover that Everland is filled with individuals that bring a number of fables and fairy tales to mind. The romance is of the clean, sighing kind with scenes being limited to some passionate embraces and hot kisses.

On the downside, I tend to grate a bit a books where the female lead is one of those impetuous, leap before thinking kind of individuals, which is what Rojita is. No wonder Hank gets so frustrated with her! That being said, a quaint historical romance fairy tale retelling that is a quick read. I enjoyed this one enough to be interested in reading other books in the series. Oh, and I just love that cover! ( )
