Summary
Adrian starts off seventh grade a little different from his peers. An “accident” left him more zombie than alive and he will have to keep everyone from finding out. Easier said than done when you have a craving for brains and have to worry about body parts falling off. Some friends may make the school year look better but not if two brothers who want the secret to immortality have anything to say about it.
Evaluation
This fun, grizzly romp through middle school offers a deeper look that it first seems. Environmentalism, bullying, multiculturalism, friendship, body image, and more are offered in this not so stereotypical zombie fest. Adrian and his friends are great characters readers can root for while learning about many great topics without ever feeling talked down to. And who doesn’t love zombies, really? Recommended for grades 5-7 for middle schools and public libraries. ( )
