The characters crackle with energy and the chemistry between them is fantastic to read... A breathtaking addition to the series that I would thoroughly recommend!' The Quiet Knitter 'Robert Bryndza has leapfrogged up to the top place in my list of favourite crime authors after reading his other books... This book was absolutely fantastic!! The story gripped me from page one and didn't let up until the end...If you're looking for a gritty police procedural crime thriller, then I can highly recommend this book. If you're going to buy this one, don't forget to buy the others too!! Five stars (although if I could give it more I would!).' Star Dust Book Reviews 'I will always applaud for more Erika Foster #QueenDetective. I love her so much, she is one of my best fictional characters.' The Book Heathen 'One of my most anticipated reads of 2017...Last Breath is a gripping, nail biting ride of a read. I can not believe how well that this series continues so smoothly. I have read and loved every single installment of this series and look forward to the next one.
A young woman found tortured and dead in a dumpster was reported missing after going out to meet a man she met on the internet. Erika Foster, no longer part of the Murder Investigation Team is close by when the call goes out to attend the site and can't help but get involved. After she discovers a similar case, she eventually gets to lead a team looking for the murderer and it becomes a race against time to stop him abducting more young girls. I love Erika Foster as a character and this series is developing so nicely! I have read every single installment and the short chapters and masterful words makes this an awesome read can't wait for more. Bravo! ( )

Last Breath
2 Stars

It is time to call it quits on this series.

To begin with, the plots are becoming repetitive with one serial killer after another. The fact that the killer's identity is revealed early on takes much of the tension and suspense out of the police procedural elements.

In addition, the protagonist, who started out as a strong, intelligent and resilient woman coping with tremendous loss, has devolved into an inconsiderate, selfish and annoying mess. The audiobook narrator does not help here as her intonation for Erika makes her come across as whiny and unpleasant.

It is unfortunate that a series with such potential has deteriorated to the extent that I just do not care about any of the characters enough to continue.

The more I read this series, the more I like it. It's because of the characters, and I'm getting to know and understand them more with each new book. They are complex, and sometimes it's hard to decide who to like or not like. Just when you get comfortable thinking someone is a complete a-hole, they do something to show they are human. Even the main villain was sympathetic part of the time. And Erika showed her more-vulnerable sides in this story. There was some romance, and heartache, especially when we almost had a repeat of her tragedy when she lost her husband. I was close to tears just thinking about it.

As usual, the crimes are pretty brutal, but there's always humor or other interactions to break it up a bit. Lot's of suspense throughout. Also prominent is the use of social media, particularly how it can be used for evil. If you are the type who likes to share everything in your life with everyone else, you should pay attention to this part. It's not always a good idea to let others know too much about your life. This is not the first book that has explored how criminals can use this type of information to get close to their victims.

The audiobooks are well-done, narrated by a woman named Jan Cramer. ( )

First I want to say that this series is great and that you really should start to read them from the beginning. Sure, they are readable as stand alone, but I think it's worthwhile to read from the start, to get to know, Erika, Moss, Peterson and the rest of the characters from the very start.

One of the reasons that I like this series so much is that I enjoy reading about Erika Foster, who is still struggling to move on after her husband was killed in the line of duty. She's practically married to her work and, despite her cautious steps towards a new relationship is Mark still present in her life, despite him being dead for so many years now. I do like to see her taking steps towards a relationship, she has not many friends and, despite being a good cop does she deserve a happy home life as well.

Robert Bryndza is such a great writer and he really manages to write compelling stories that just makes you think one more chapter and suddenly you are halfway through the book. And, Last Breath is not an exception. I'm not always that fond of following the killers POV, when you know who he is from the start, name, and everything, but now and then it works. And, this time it did. And, let me tell you that is one sicko. A really creepy dude that appalled me. But, then again, his family, the milieu he has grown up in seemed not really have made it easier for him. Still, something must be seriously wrong in his head.

Luckily Erika manages to persuade Sparks to let her take on the case. I was a bit surprised over the fact that it did seem like Erika and Sparks were finally burying the hatchet. Although without giving away too much, did Bryndza manage to really surprise me here. You just have to read and find out for yourself.

A great book, just as the previous and a must read if you like this series!

I want to thank the publisher for providing me with a free copy through NetGalley for an honest review! ( )
