"This complete graphic novel-style biography presents the life and legacy of one of the most influential figures in United States history. Alexander Hamilton was on hand for the Revolutionary War, the development of the Constitution, and the establishment of the Treasury and banking as we have come to know them today. Cut down by a bullet from political rival Aaron Burr, Hamilton may have faded into the background among other great American leaders like George Washington or Thomas Jefferson. However a recent resurgence of interest in Hamilton, thanks in no small part to the hit Broadway musical Hamilton has returned the formerly forgotten Founder to prominence, not just in a historical context but in terms of his lasting impact on American society today. Author Jonathan Hennessey and comic book illustrator Justin Greenwood team to bring the world of Alexander Hamilton to life in this fully-illustrated, graphic novel style biography that captures the period, people, and places of the birth of the United States. Along the way, they help readers contextualize Hamilton, showcasing his impact on history beyond his life, including his policies' shaping of the Civil War and how his ideas on the economy led to America's rise as a superpower. Comic and 18th/19th century language do not mix easily -- the result is in part an interesting biography of Hamilton, with added commentary of economic and political developments during his life, but it is also in part a simplistic view of what happened because of the limitations of one sentence per picture. However, I found it a quick and easy introduction into this particular life. ( )

I have not seen the Hamilton musical but have heard good things about it. It seems like half the country is talking about Hamilton. When I saw this graphic history of his life, I figured it was time to learn about Hamilton.

I enjoy reading graphic novels and nonfiction. I find that the drawings usually add to the text. I enjoyed the artwork here, although at times I felt that all the people in the book looked angry. Several times they seemed to be glaring at me from the page.

My favorite part of the book was Alexander's childhood. Very interesting, and my heart broke for the way he was treated by his relatives. He really pulled himself out of a bad situation. I was very impressed by his dedication to getting an education and bettering himself.

I learned a lot about history that I didn't know before. Getting the story behind the facts is really interesting and makes history come alive. Towards the end of the book, the facts were flying fast and furious, and it was hard to keep up with all of them. I would have liked more explanations and more of a "storyline." I think the reason I was so drawn to the first half was there was more of a narrative, and I felt for the people. The last half of the book was presented so matter of factly that it was hard to feel anything for them. Some of the humanity was lost.

I received a free review copy from Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest opinion. ( )

A passable biography of Hamilton. Drawbacks: It is text heavy for a graphic novel; I had trouble distinguishing between characters sometimes in the unrefined art; and the coloring is often murky or in distractingly unnatural hues. Despite that, the subject matter carries the day. ( )

This graphic novel/ biography grants readers access to the history and legacy of Alexander Hamilton. It takes us on the journey from his childhood in the West Indies, to his death in July 12, 1804, with a strong focus on the American Revolution and Continental Congress proceedings.

It gives reader's a view of the Founding Father's impact on our society and speaks to historical details such as, "New Money", and the "Law of Primogeniture."

Throughout this reading of the life of Hamilton, we are also introduced to many other historical figures. Among these are, Benedict Arnold, Aaron Burr, John Adams, George Washington and Benjamin Franklin.

This book is heavily detailed in both graphic content by Justin Greenwood and language for that era by Jonathan Hennessey. The read is broken down into 22 segments and some of them contain flashbacks.

This historical piece matches a lot of text (history) to each graphic representation. I did appreciate the historical details and liked many of graphics, and the bubble placement worked well in many of the segments. I felt Washington's Retreat was very well detailed as you could see the anguish on the faces, while the withdrawing of troops occured.

If you are interested in a story that tells about early American history, and enjoy graphic novels, then this may be the book for you.
