My Roommate’s Girl by Julianna Keyes Source: Netgalley My Rating: 4/5 stars My Review: Aidan had a choice; one of those moments in life where you choose, knowing your life is going to be altered irrevocably with either choice. For Aidan, the choice wasn’t hard, go to college rather than go to jail and for three years he’s kept his nose clean, his grades up, and completely away from trouble. Then he met Aster . . . . Aster is everything Aidan wants: she’s kind, she’s caring, she’s gorgeous, she’s intelligent, and she’s focused on her course work. She’s also taken by Aidan’s new roommate, Jerry. Jerry is the epitome of nice guy and taking something (or someone in this case!) he cares for seems like the lowest thing Aidan could ever do, but Aster is worth the guilt and seriously dirty deed it’s going to take to split the couple apart. All Aidan has to do is bide his time. What Aidan doesn’t count on is how three years of playing by the rules and generally being a decent human being gets disrupted when he schemes to break up Jerry and Aster. Though he and Aster are growing closer, the guilt about his actions is tremendous and Aidan is desperate for Aster to remain in the dark about his despicable behavior. What Aster doesn’t know can’t hurt Aidan, right?? But, Aster does know . . . . Aster projects to the world the kind of girl she wants to be, the kind of girl she works hard at being, and the kind of girl both Jerry and Aidan want. What much of the world doesn’t know is Aster’s secret and why she tries so damn hard to maintain the image she wants to be remembered for. What she has planned for Aidan isn’t at all in line with her good girl image, but he blew her world apart and she isn’t going to allow him to get away with his treachery. Trouble is, Aster’s plan is a long game and she doesn’t count on actually liking Aidan while she’s plotting to destroy him. In fact, Aster is even more broken hearted over the loss of Aidan (when it happens!) than she was over the loss of Jerry. What ensues following all the heartbreak is two very, very damaged people trying to make their lives not only right, but happy. Together, Aster and Aidan are so good, but there is a tremendous amount of hurt, a pile of secrets, and trust issues they both have to deal with before they can truly be together and be good for one another. The road is far, far from easy, and Fate has a way of making things harder, but the risk is worth it for Aidan and Aster and their future! The Bottom Line: This is not my first rodeo with Julianna Keyes and I have to say, I really enjoy her spin on college romance! From beginning to end, My Roommate’s Girl is a roller coaster ride of crazy, emotions, frustration, and tension! From one moment to the next there’s no telling what Aidan or Aster is going to do and most of the time, their actions will just leave you shaking your head in disbelief. With that being said, they’re both really likeable characters and it’s hard not to root for them and their eventual HEA. The cast of secondary characters all play appropriate roles and more than support the Aidan and Aster throughout. If you’re looking for a guaranteed HEA with a few twists and turns, and all the feels then My Roommate’s Girl is just the book you’re looking for. So at first I just wanted to kick Aidan. He's supposed to be reforming himself but has such nefarious plans for Jerry and Aster. But as I read on I had quite a few giggles and how his plans blow up in his face. One good thing though is that at least he actually begins to make an effort to change himself to be worthy of Aster. Then that twist in the book that puts them both in pretty much the same boat and then it's Aster's turn to face reality. I really like how they both turn out in the end. I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from NetGalley for voluntary review consideration. I received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. I asked for this book based on the positive reviews, however I really do not agree with them, and that is actually goo, because we all have and this author brought out our emotions. I disliked Aiden, he was a horrible person, horrible. Supposedly he was someone who was trying to change, yet from the beginning he was going after Aster, trying to break up the relationship between Jerry his new roommate and his girlfriend Aster. Now Jerry is this really nice guy, always happy, and he did not deserve this treatment, now do not get me wrong, I do not condone cheating at all, under any circumstances, however, Aiden plied him with constant alcohol, and then put a prostitute to work on him, even seeing him struggling trying to not get turned on by this girl, he saw Jerry struggling and how miserable he was, my heart went out to Jerry, and I am a person who hates, hates cheating, but I was more upset with Aiden. Now Aster, wasn't the best, after finding out her story, and the why she was with Jerry, but still, I would not wish Aiden on anyone, so I kind of wished, I had spend this time on another book. The writing was not bad, so I still gave it three, because others did appreciate, just not me. It started off ok. then Aiden really showed his bad side and decided he wanted his roommates girlfriend, the entertainment value vanished for me. I finished the book and it did improve and so did Aiden but not much. The story was a bit weak and so were the characters. It was a "I've started so I'll finish" type read for me. HTML: The day a judge gave me the choice between going to prison or going to college was the day I vowed to stop stealing. Never again would I see something beautiful and beyond my means and take it, just because I wanted it. Just because I could. When I moved in with Jerry, it was with good intentions. I needed a place to live while I got my degree, and he needed a roommate. Then I saw Aster. Blond and beautiful, good, pure, sweet, smartâ?¦and Jerryâ??s girlfriend. She was everything I never thought I could have. Exceptâ?¦maybe I can. So I put a plan into action. Yeah, Iâ??d probably go to hell, but it would be worth it. I wanted Aster. I wanted her yesterday and tomorrow and every possible way. But you know what they say. Be careful what you wish forâ?¦because you just mig Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

Was this a 3 star or a 4 star? It was one of the more raw, gritty, unpleasant NA books I've read. The only one that comes close to this [b:Summer Skin|26211610|Summer Skin|Kirsty Eagar|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1453873095s/26211610.jpg|46192224] or I should say this comes close to that?
Reading this book felt oddly personal. In a lot of ways, in a lot of characters, in a lot of mistakes and in a lot of hopes too. And I actually think this is very NA. If YA is all about identity and coming to terms with that (that is, deciding who you are), NA is about deciding who you are going to be. Who will you disappoint? Who will you leave behind other than a perfunctory 'hey, how are you?' and where do you think you're going. (Hey, I know what middle age is about in fiction too: "how the fuck am I here?")
That said, no it doesn't have my undying recommendation. While I lapped it up and love it for its complications and echoes of mistakes and consequences that are so very true to so many degrees, will you? Can you identify with an aimless hero who seriously does one of the worst things within 3 chapters of a book and let him grow from there? I can't explain the plot, nor do I ever anyway, but Aiden. Aiden. Aiden is a fucking asshole. Not my beloved kind, but a fuckface. A dick-with terrible tattoos (that should tell you how different this author is.)
So what the hell, Sam? If you're still reading this you're maybe thinking "obviously this is barely a 3. The hero is a straight up dick."
But no. Because Julianna Keyes and her indescribable plots make you feel, understand and pretty much root for these men with terrible mistakes. But she doesn't make it easy to do so. I didn't really click with Aiden, but we all know an Aiden. And nothing in life is a straight line. And so this book is a 4 because it is so very very true. ( )
