Business. Psychology. Nonfiction. Economics. HTML:The New York Times bestselling authors of Switch and Made to Stick explore why certain brief experiences can jolt us and elevate us and change usâ??and how we can learn to create such extraordinary moments in our life and work.
While human lives are endlessly variable, our most memorable positive moments are dominated by four elements: elevation, insight, pride, and connection. If we embrace these elements, we can conjure more moments that matter. What if a teacher could design a lesson that he knew his students would remember twenty years later? What if a manager knew how to create an experience that would delight customers? What if you had a better sense of how to create memories that matter for your children?

This book delves into some fascinating mysteries of experience: Why we tend to remember the best or worst moment of an experience, as well as the last moment, and forget the rest. Why "we feel most comfortable when things are certain, but we feel most alive when they're not." And why our most cherished memories are clustered into a brief period during our youth.

Readers discover how brief experiences can change lives, such as the experiment in which two strangers meet in a room, and forty-five minutes later, they leave as best friends. (What happens in that time?) Or the tale of the world's youngest female billionaire, who credits her resilience to something her father asked the family at the dinner table. (What was that simple question?)

Many of the defining moments in our lives are the result of accident or luckâ??but why would we leave our most meaningful, memorable moments to chance when we can create them? The Power of Moments shows us how to be the author of richer experi

I was listening to a podcast where one of the authors of this book was explaining the concept of "The Power of Moments" and provided some examples that compelled me to buy the book straight away (which is very rare for me). The book is packed with examples and lots of great advice, albeit it is a bit verbose at times. The key concept is that we can be more impactful as leaders and as people by recognising and creating more "moments" / memorable experiences. We can be the designers of moments that deliver elevation, insight, pride and connection. These extraordinary moments are what make lives meaningful. ( )

Often memorable & special moments in our lives seem to be few and far between, usually unplanned or random. However, there are many strategies we can learn from this book on how to make regular moments/events and make them more meaningful both personally (for ourselves, families, or friends) and professionally (peers, customers, teams, etc.).

Some of the strategies are cheap and cheerful, while others take more resources. However, the impact of the extra effort can elevate regular experiences and transform them to be more impactful and/or enjoyable - leading to more meaningful relationships, improved customer satisfaction, stronger teams, etc. ( )

This is a book written from a business perspective (non-Christian) but I found there was a lot of value in applying some (not all) of this to my church. There is plenty of general truth to how we can make small tweaks to presentation, layout, planning...etc that can increase the impact of what we are saying and doing. Of course it all comes back to giving our best and trusting that the Lord will do what only He can do :)

This book was read with the song "This magic moment" playing a lot in my head. And I really took a lot from this book.

I especially loved the Magic Castle popsicle hot line story, and I'm not even that big of a fan of popsicles. The Magic Castle is just a hotel and not a particularly noteworthy hotel ... except they have a hotline to call for free popsicles and routinely have some of the highest ratings for hotels.

This is my first read book in 2018 and I'm excited to have lots of moments.

A good compilation, applicable. But the summation lacks clarity and cohesion. ( )
