Neurath avoids the purely ethnographic and concentrates on the configuration of a conceptual framework to study the art of the Huicholes, a group traditionally subjected to stereotypes for instance, that they are a static culture when in reality they are constantly developing new forms of expression thanks to their cosmopolitan attitude and demographic expansion. Traditions are carried on within their society, with rites and "magical objects" (arrows, ji caras, and masks), as well as images produced for different markets. Book is a tribute to Fritz Saxl, who wrote a book with the same title. Includes glossary and bibliography; color and b/w illustrations.
