Abstract: Videotext, or information television, is a technology which displays textual information on a video screen by combining computer and electronics applications with the written word. In this way, the television screen become an information terminal transmitting printed information instantaneously to the viewer. Information retrieval and transmission systems, also known as Teletext and Viewdata, are rapidly being developed in England, France, Canada and Japan for ultimate use in homes and businesses, as well as in research centers and laboratories. Items such as news summaries, financial reports, sports scores, weather data, transportation schedules, marketing information, etc., can be broadcast on unused television channels and displayed on any TV set specially adapted to read the information. With interactive versions, users can order the information they wish to see with a keyboard connected to a computer; the amount of available information (data base) is potentially huge. A variety of videotext systems are described. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
