I couldn't get in in to this book, the first pages were very interesting but I cant say the same for the rest and the final. ( ) I read this book years ago but I couldn't remember the name of it. I discovered that here. The book was enjoyable, a love story taking place just before war breaks out in Europe.. The couple travels back to the husband's country, Italy, and there was memorable descriptions of the mountains. What i didn't understand was the sudden ending. The husband goes off to war, promising to return, and that's it, the end. I thought it was as if the author got tired of it so he just ended it. I didn't know what the wife was going to do or if the man actually ever came back or what. I'll have to find it in my collections and re-read it. I don't doubt a re-read will be worth it.
