I am a HUGE proponent of this book. Yes, that is largely in part because of my love for the Gene Kelly film. However, this book is awesome for use as "SING as an Early Literacy Practice." Indeed, I used it this past week in my Every Child Ready to Read session.

I dare you to try reading it as it--without the tune. I barely can. And I almost hate doing that even to start off. I like exposing children to bygone songs that parents/grandparents might know but they don't. The illustrations in Singing in the Rain (and all of Tim Hopgood's books) are so inviting and fun as well.

The touch of music notes, indeed the rhythm of the song, interspersed on each page is a fun touch. The music buff in me appreciates that. ( )

I love his book! It reminds me of childhood and makes me think of Science. You can’t help but almost sing along to this light-hearted book when you read it out loud in class. There are so many ways you can use this book in the classroom. I loved how it took a song that children may know and it was put into a book with vivid colorful illustrations. I used this book in a lesson that incorporated teaching the students about the water cycle; you can also use this book to teach children about rain. I included a sing along and dance along after we were finished the read aloud. This book just makes me happy! ( )

This book is my son's favorite out of the arts ones I have read to him. Singing in the Rain is an actual song you can sing to kids while showing the pictures. The artwork looks like it was done with a tissue paper medium and all of the little kids are moseying through a rainy city with their umbrellas, golashes, and raincoats. My son has a fascination with rainbows and easily noticed the ROYGBIV pattern of the children on the front cover. It's fun to blend a reading, singing and art project altogether. Early Elementary kids will find this book to be a delight as they too love to play and sing in the rain. ( )
